MASTERWORKS SYMPOSIUM

Developing new audiences for audiovisual masterworks

The AVTrust “Masterworks Celebration” singles out Canadian audiovisual archival material that deserves long-term preservation.  There are thousands of audiovisual works still awaiting preservation while new works are generated daily that will require conservation.  In our digital age, those creating, storing, programming, and preserving content are met with the public’s expectation that all of this material is available on the Web and that it is copyright free. Young people in particular having grown up in the era of digital content creation view media differently from previous generations.  The demand for preservation and simultaneous access can be overwhelming but it also the opportunity to explore this wealth of material in exciting ways.  This symposium highlights projects created by experts who mine archival treasures re-inventing content that engages and interacts with new audiences.
