Get involved!  Become a volunteer!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the AV Trust!  Volunteers are the backbone of organizations like us; our mission is to promote the preservation of Canada's audiovisual heritage and to facilitate access to Canada's film, television, radio, and music/sound recording heritage.

WHO can volunteer?
The Trust is looking for enthusiastic individuals with a passion for Canada's heritage to help with a huge variety of projects as well as the day to day administration of the office; these volunteers should have the following skills:

  • verbal and written fluency in English and French
  • strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work independently
  • solid multitasking abilities
  • proficiency with MS Office software (especially Word, Excel, and Access) as well as internet applications
  • flexibility and creativity

WHAT can volunteers do?
We recruit volunteers to work on a number of projects, mainly focusing on advocacy and awareness, fundraising and sponsorship campaigns, and our flagship event, MasterWorks, which is scheduled for the fall of 2007.  Additionally, we invite volunteers to help out with administrative tasks in our office as well as research, writing, and distribution for the Trust's newsletter, PreserVision.

WHERE can I volunteer?
As the Trust's office is located in Ottawa, most of our volunteers are based in the area; however, we do have a limited number of 'virtual' volunteering opportunities.

For our MasterWorks event, we require Ottawa-based volunteers from May-December 2006 to help with correspondence, research, fundraising, database management, and much more.  Additionally, as our MasterWorks event will be held in Montréal this October, we will require the support of 5-10 volunteers in Montréal on the day of the gala.

WHEN can I volunteer?
Anytime!  We recruit volunteers year-round.

WHY should I volunteer?
The Trust profits greatly from the time and expertise of its volunteers, but by helping the Trust, the volunteers benefit as well.  You will:

  • gain valuable experience in the audiovisual and media industries, making valuable professional contacts
  • improve your professional skills and learn new ones, enhancing your CV
  • learn about the restoration, preservation, archiving of audiovisual material
  • meet like-minded individuals who share your interests in the audiovisual field and Canadian heritage
  • participate in exciting events, including symposia, screenings, lectures, and award ceremonies
